Hello, I maybe now think this is camel bone? I really do not know. I bought about a year ago at Hospice Thrift Store for $9.00. This has bothered me for a long time. It is well carved and I just do not know. A man from Clars Auction looked at it and did not know either. This auction advertises before the start of Antiques Roadshow on TV. I have many items that are a mystery! Any help appreciated! Don the toracat
ceramics it looks from here!!
It is not ceramic, I am sure of that.
If that is the natural color look up Padauk wood. African Padauk especially because it has the same color and texture whether carved or turned on a lathe. It is an exotic hardwood and if this is an example then you paid about right for it if you want to turn it for a profit. The wood is getting harder to find with the cutting restrictions.
I am almost 100% sure it is not wood will change photo!
I wonder if you have weighed it? Bone would dry and be rather light compared to other substances. I don't have any camel bone but I assume Google could provide info on it. I have bone and antler but nothing with this color or texture. Certainly an interesting piece. Keep in mind everything in my shop is raw and dry with no stain or other coloration so I base my guess from what I actually have and what is closest to a match. The bottom view you just posted doesn't match wood at all unless it has been wet.
Dear Don, it seems to be rather tall and bones are hollow, even camel ones...
The base don't show any sign of it.
Mystery material! Keep on searching!
XOXO
Thanks fhrjr2! and kyratango I will find out the answer and keep you posted! It has a strange bend and angle to it? A curve? Maybe means nothing? Love You Don! XOXO
To me, it looks like a wax figure. Heat it a bit to find out.
I used hot needle, will not penetrate thanks!
