The 10-cent Mineral Heritage commemorative stamps were first placed on sale at Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 13, 1974. The block of four designs printed on the same sheet depicted amethyst, rhodochrosite, tourmaline, and petrified wood cut and polished as gems.
The stamps were designed by Leonard E. Buckley and printed in sheets of forty-eight, with an initial printing of 150 million.
