I am taking a break from my own collection this week to post something different.
This is a limited edition Model 94 Winchester in .30-30, paying tribute to some of the great American Indian leaders of history. The receiver is 24 karat gold plated and has etched pictures of Sitting Bull, Gall, Geronimo, Chief Joseph and Red Cloud. This is the “Wrangler” version of the ’94 Winchester, with a big loop lever and saddle ring. The loop and barrel bands are 24 karat gold plated and the stock is walnut. The rifle is unfired and has its original shipping case and paperwork. It was created by a company called America Remembers.
This rifle belonged to my uncle who left it in my care when he moved to Mexico where the gun laws are prohibitive. He passed away last month and I am grieving his loss. This last weekend his son came to pick his father’s guns up. I decided to photograph them as I got them ready to go.
It’s not really my kind of collectable. I like well-handled items that were made to be used – but this is a valid area of firearm collecting and I think well worth posting.
It's great that you were the caretaker of these for your uncle and his son.
Thanks for sharing the story and your kindness.
Dave
