I am taking a break from my own collection this week to post something different.
This is a limited edition Model 73 Winchester (reproduced by Uberti) in .44.-40, paying tribute to the scouts of the western frontier. The receiver is 24 karat gold plated and has etched pictures of Jim Bridger, William (Buffalo Bill) Cody, Kit Carson, Wild Bill Hickok and Jim Beckwourth. It has an octagonal barrel, checkered walnut stock, and features a spirit level tangent sight. The rifle is unfired and has its original shipping case and paperwork. It was created by a company called America Remembers.
This rifle belonged to my uncle who left it in my care when he moved to Mexico where the gun laws are prohibitive. He passed away last month and I am grieving his loss. This last weekend his son came to pick his father’s guns up. I decided to photograph them as I got them ready to go.
It’s not really my kind of collectable. I like well-handled items that were made to be used – but this is a valid area of firearm collecting and I think well worth posting.
Sorry about the loss of your uncle. I am partial to the basic finish myself although it is an interesting rifle.
Thanks fortapache, he and I were close.
Thanks for the love blunder, Trey, officialfuel, fortapache, geo26e, tom61375, nutsabotas6, pw-collector and aghcollect.
