    The CDV was taken at the end of the War by Wenderoth and Taylor and bears their backmark, a tax stamp and a pencil ID of "Al Rorer". Rorer appears to be wearing the rank of a Lieutenant (one bar).

    During the Battle of Gettysburg, Rorer was a Sergeant and the Regiment suffered horrendous casualties. The Regiment lost (KIA, WIA and Missing) 264 of the 397 men engaged during the battle! The Regiment has two monuments on the field at Gettysburg.

    Alfred J. Rorer

    Residence Philadelphia PA;
    Enlisted on 8/19/1862 as a Sergeant.

    On 8/19/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. PA 150th Infantry
    He was Mustered Out on 6/23/1865 at Elmira, NY

    Promotions:
    * 1st Sergt 11/1/1863
    * 1st Lieut 5/3/1864
    * Capt 6/15/1865 (Not Mustered)

      The bucktails were organized as expert marksmen. Initially, the members of the Regiment wore actual DEER Tails or "Bucktails" in their hats as a distinguishing feature of their uniform. The 149th and 150th were later "Bucktail" regiments-- the 42nd being the first iteration.

      Here is a link to the history of the 15oth:

      The SAME pose of Rorer can be found in the illustrations on page 132:

      The 150th earned its fame at the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg.
