I only have a photo. I had torn it apart to re-upholster and my husband accidentally threw it out! It was a chair in my family for a long time and I know it's at least older than 1930.
I would love to have some relevant search terms so I might be able to find a replacement before my Mom finds out it was trashed.
The front feet were carved and made from walnut but there are no claws, just a pleasant curve that ended in an impractical ball. There may have been wheels on all four legs but I am not positive. The upholstery on it in this photo was not original to the chair so it may have originally been leather - again, not sure. There's a single cushion on the chair and the back/sides flare at the top all the way around. It's pretty deep, if I had a picture of a average height adult sitting in it the back/sides go up to the shoulders.
The back legs were basic slightly curved rectangular legs made also from walnut.
Hi Phil,
Thank you for looking at my chair! It's not a face or representation of anything really, more like a curly cue on the front that curves a little downward on the edge (the side of the leg looks like the front) too. I'll see if I have any kind of close-up photo of the legs if that'll help in identifying the chair.
Thank you so much!!!! I think if I can get a similar one I'd be completely happy (and maybe I could commission someone to carve some legs that are similar). You've given me some great ways to start searching and I really appreciate it!
I have pictures of my Mother in it and she said it was re-upholstered years before her sister was born in '42 so she had thought it was from the 20's.
