Does anyone have any ideas about how to turn this lamp on/off besides pulling out the plug?
There's a sticker on it that says underwriters laboratories portable lamp issue BC. 48.941

I checked for switches everywhere on the lamp but I can't seem to find any.
Get a "touch lamp" plug - you just plug it into the wall, then plug your lamp into it, and you can turn it on or off just by touching any metal on the lamp. -- It may have originally been used plugged into a socket that operated off a wall switch.
Incidently - Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is simply a testing facility that guarantees the products as" safe for use" or "consumer protected" - It has no relation to the actual maker of the product. You will find their label on all electronic equipment.
Based on the structure of the lamp, I would say that this is a touch lamp. I have several lamps of similar design that are based on glass panels and a metal framework. The touch switch is inside the base of a lamp and if it burns out the lamp will not switch. You can replace the switch. The switches are easily available on the internet and if you are a do-it-yourselfer there are also many places to find the installation instructions.
