I recently found this while searching a long-term civil war encampment site on a farm in Tennessee. It is metal, with a green patina and a tip or pick attached to one end that is silver in color and seems to be welded or soldered on. The other end appears to have had a similar tip that has been broken off. I am hoping someone can give me some idea of what it is. I am thinking surgical or dental instrument of some sort, but that may just be wishful thinking. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Looks like an old dental pick.
Or a string bean.
I'm stumped & waiting to hear ideas.
clean out the fuse hole on a cannon........or a rifle nipple...just a guess ...I
m not the plumber <I'm the plumbers son ,I'll put my finger in the hole till the real plumber comes...'-)))
Civil War guns & cannons are my field Roy, & that's not it. It's made of metal & soldered so not made to squeeze something by hand, even under fire. I'm still stumped.
Sooooooooo you don't know if it was put there after the civil war either ,,,ech/?
There is a whatchamacallit in refrigeration plumbing that looks just like it & soldered on the ends.
Thanks for the effort everyone. The item was found about 6 inches deep, in a low treed area, 200 feet from a creek, on an old plantation. Find was about 500 to 750 feet from the original site of the mansion on same side of the creek on a nearby hill. The property owner guessed it was some kind of taxidermy tool, but it just looks way too crude to be something currently in use for that purpose. I sure hope its nothing as generic as a the refrigeration whatchamacallit Blunderbuss2 has suggested...lol. And you are spot on Slackjack, I have named it "green bean".
