Husqvarna(Sweden) Zig Zag type 49E. Maybe from late 50's.
I found this sawing machine from flea market with 15€ price tag.
With broken belt and machinery was jamming.
I made new belt from transmission belt(i order it from uk) by shorting it little bit.
Little bit oil and it works well. The stitches are great but.......
This is zig zag, i didn't find switch for it? Machine do only straight stitches?
Whether any of this a gimmick?

      Hi Joe.
Husqvarna were one of the world's best sewing machines from the 50s to the 70s.
I also think this is from the 50s.
The machine would have had zigzag butoften the cam that makes the needle shaft move side to side is damaged or out of adjustment, so the zigzag remains straight!
If you chose to get that fixed thismachine probably has another 60 years in it!

I think its is one of the dials. Top left, needle position. Top right, stitch length. Bottom right, stitch width, for zigzag.
There may be a push/pull switch on the side of the machine for reverse.
Have you tried checking the net with the model number (often on the rear plate). Sometimes user manuals are available.

I bought a Husqvarna 49 e for about £5. It is actually called Nordic zigzag. But apart from the motor being of make Allesch made in Denmark, all places inside machine state Husqvarna. A lovely little machine, I had to rescue it, knowing it didn't work. Gave it a good clean up and then realized that it didn't have a motor belt!! I see that you Vintage_Joe, have managed to put a belt on it. Can you tell me where I can find something to use. I see that the belt must have a belt apx 0.5 cm wide as this fits the shape of the wheel and the the small "wheel" protruding from the motor, which has 2 separate places for the belt to fit into. This belt does not go down into the accessory box as in your pics or as in the manual that comes with the machine. I would be soo grateful for any info. I am sure that this machine will run very smoothly.

      Hi vikingfan!
      Try this http://sewingonline.co.uk/forsale/belts.html
There is rubber belt that fits many models or if you have old belt you have measure it to order right one, if you don't have old measure it with string or something else.
I notice earlier in flea market another H zig zag with motor on the side like yours.
I have missing belt tensioner from my machine, i have to do it myself.
