I wanted something special for my 500th post and since I love Nippon this seemed to fit the bill nicely. It's a beautiful 7" sauce or berry bowl sitting on three small ball feet which I found at GW today. Imported by Morimura Bros., the bottom carries their green wreath mark from around 1911 -12. The interior is painted with a wonderful landscape which includes a castle ! The edge is decorated with brown beading against a yellow background. Each of the ball feet also has a scroll enamel design in tan and brown. The whole piece is in perfect condition too. The Morimura Bros. Co. in Japan was the major producer of "Nippon" and Noritake porcelain during this time period. Nippon is a westernized version of "Ni hon" meaning Japan. Pieces were required to have a mark from their country of origin for export after the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890. It was a budget buster but what the heck ! -Mike-
