The 8-cent Robinson Jeffers commemorative stamp was first placed on sale at Carmel, California, on August 13, 1973. This stamp was the second of four in the American Arts Series issued in 1973.
Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962) was a renowned American poet. Noted for his isolationist style, by the time of his death, his work had lost its popularity. However, as a result of the efforts of scholars to renew his works, his legacy has been revitalized. The stamp was designed by Mark English and was issued in sheets of forty, with an initial printing of 150 million.
