A recent post by the Trunkman inspired me to post this trunk I bought at a auction last year. I was quite fortunate and purchased it for it's opening bid. Like the Trunkmans, this is lined with newspaper from the 1830's. What is unique is that one article is about Davey Crockett. It also came with a 1950's newspaper article about the trunk and the Davey Crockett tie. I think that it was originaly covered in leather that has long ago disappeared. The one question I have about this is the initials on the top. The N is reversed? Does anyone have any ideal why this would be?
The "N" is a stumper. The VW style of the "W" or "M" must mean something too. Is it really old?
Think of apple computer -- when the lid is open it spells M N -- another guess would be if there is another language like German (?) where the N is written that way. Or you are looking at an original typo -- Either way -- GREAT TRUNK!!
blunder? Really? Is it really old??? Use the enlargement and scan feature and look at it. Also the the 1950's newspaper article about the trunk, this is what they call "providence".
Trunkman, thanks for your comments, someone else thought that some europeans reversed the "n's". I like the story it tells, not the fine condition that your trunks is in, but something this old is boud to have afew bumps and bruises.
Slavic uses the reverse N but not the only language apparently.
sweet................
Nice old trunk. I would look into the Russian alphabet for possible answers to the
backward letter N (pronounced like the "i" in taxi) as for the Crazy W there is a similar looking letter in one of the 16 additional letters of the Russian alphabet.
Always keep in mind that letters in alphabets have evolved differently over time.
This trunk may have seen the letter change based on its time period. Remember
in 1568 Leonardo Da Vinci created mirror writing ,maybe someone was practicing !
just kidding. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the love, officialfuel, racer4four, and Phil.
Thanks kerry 10456, smiata, roycroftbooksfromme1, & obsessive.
There were some people of that time could not write and would make a mark. This could be someone's mark, and add in dyslexia maybe.

Blunderbuss2, You must have the wrong number. I don't have any ideal what your babbleing about? But if you want to send me a gift that would be nice.
Rocker, I couldn't find trunkman's profile using search so figured he would still be monitoring your trunk. He got the message via your trunk poste. He sent me a gift & was looking for a way to thank him. By the way, you misspelled babbling. LOL.
Actually I used your trunk because it impressed me so much & I love looking at it.
If you put out a contract on me, please let me know so I can move! LOL
