Hoping someone can help me identify the stones, possible maker, age of this necklace. I purchased it at an auction over 30 years ago. It was in a box of other items, mish-mash of stuff. Didn't buy the box for this. But I have always been puzzled. It's Sterling, as it's marked in VERY tiny print on the back of the bottom stone. That's the only marking I can see. Possibly a paper clip chain, and very delicate and small, like 7-8 inches long, as for a child? My main question is, "What are these stones?" Moonstone, Citrine? I am clueless. Any help appreciated. And is there any value to it? I'm not selling it, but is it just a piece of junky jewelry or costume jewelry? New to this, so help appreciated. :-)
They look like Mexican opals to me but there are some smart jewelry folk on here that should be able to help. What did you buy the box to get?
These stones are called Dragons Breath faux opals....very Deco!!! Nice!
AmberRose, I bought the box for a lid to a depression glass sugar bowl. Royal Lace, Pink. Had the bowl, found the lid. Other stuff in the box too, this was one, at the bottom of the box. No box, just in there in a "wad" more or less. I had to untangle it, & it's been in a box ever since.
And Thank You Moonstonelover21. I had actually forgotten about this necklace, as I never wore it, nor did I buy the box for it. It was just a surprise I suppose one could say. There was two or three other pieces of old jewelry in there too, along with some older glassware stuff, etc. That's why I bought the box. The lid for my Royal Lace sugar bowl, pink. It was just a box with glass and other stuff that I didn't dig through until I got it home. It was the lid I was after. Paid, 5.00 for the box. SO, I think I got a good deal there?
I think these are just beautiful! You need to wear them!
To small for my neck, & I have a small neck. I do think this was for a child. 12-14 inch stretch around neck. It would be like a choker from the 70's! And, they are really pretty. :-) Thanks.
Like you, I also came up on some amazing Dragon's Breath links found in a bag of mostly junk costume jewelry (I have the bracelet I made out of them posted on here) Definitely a fabulous find! A really pretty and dainty necklace.
