Years ago I received this unknown object as partial payment for helping sort out an estate. It was amongst many unopened packages shipped from Austria by the grandparents of the family that owned the house. It was actually an old barn converted to living quarters and poorly at that. Anyway this item is 20" long and 11" wide a wing tips. The head is of carved wood with glass eyes. The Main body is made of some kind of animal horn, unknown to me. The metal lace around the neck and the wings and tail piece are made of brass as are the attaching screws. I have shown this to many antique dealers and none of them have proven to be of any assistance . I have been around antiques quite awhile and have never seen anything like it.
Maybe it is a Griffin?
It is quite fabulous!
Love this piece. Beautiful.
Thanks for the loves! I am still wondering what it's original purpose and origin is.
I think it's a dragon & I think it's very cool !! I would love this ! How unusual
:-)
It may be just an Austrian hunting trophy. But.........I think that is full of bad Karma. You can see it in the eyes ! Have you identified the animal horn ? Get rid of it during a full moon......alone.
Google images for girgentana goat :-)
It makes a perfect scepter for a witch to preside Sabbath, mouhahaaa ^ ^
I did search out girgentana goat and it does look like the same horn. We may be closer to identifying this piece! Thanks again for the loves, the interest, and the lead. The combined knowledge on this site is amazing!
