This is a beautiful, large storage container w/ elephants and hand-placed rivets and hand-tooling throughout . The pot itself may be hand-turned as well, but i can't tell for sure. I bought it at the Alameda show today from a guy who says he's had it since 1967, and thought it was old then, so ?? this type of glaze / paint was popular for a time - i think the 50s or 60s, but am not sure. it's kind of brutalist - swiping a slightly hardened brush w/ a liquid gilding over the entire surface. does anyone have any idea where it's from or who made/sold them?
i just added the photo of how i have it displayed at my nursery. i like to put those japanese lantern / pagoda caps on storage containers to keep water from collecting in them.
forgot to mention that this piece is 18" tall x 14" across.
Great looking urn!! Looks like chinese bronze , luv it;-)
thank you surfdub66! i think it's really beautiful and it doesn't really come across that well in the photos. i'll have to get some outdoor shots and see if they come out better.
i just added a better, outdoor photo of this pot.
i found a smaller one of these on 1stdibs. says it's from china from the 1930s.
