Brass colored clip of some kind. My guess is 50-80 years old. Very strong, even now. Grandfather was a metallurgist, so maybe used in that field.

It is for lifting a test tube
I think you will find that is a test tube clamp. Squeeze it and slide it down the tube, let go and you can pick the tube up without touching it. Sounds odd but if the tube has acid in it you might appreciate not holding it.
it is actually a pinchcock clamp used to clamp rubber tubing; 'spose one could use it to clamp rubber tubing to a glass test tube tho' : )

Oh I was way off....I was thinking it might be Cheech & Chong's roach clip from the movie, "Up In Smoke" LOL. =^}
