This is a recent item that I acquired. It's an old 'Cake' storage tin with vent holes. The lid is embossed with 'SAVOY'. The face has 'CAKE' printed on it. Lower left corner is a makers mark 'SMP'. It measures approx. 13"x 10"x 8". Original colour seems to be a light gray with gold on the handles, latch, and Cake. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
This reminds me of some of the WWII surplus boxes that I've seen.
I wonder if SMP is the Sheet Metal Products Company of Canada Limited
1911-1927.
Have a look at the logo on this cataloque page ad for Sheet Metal Products Co.

WOW! That's an awesome find 'walksoftly'! That would be the manufacturer. I'll start googling them. Thanks very much.

Happy to help, got lucky as there doesn't appear to be much info on the company, just a couple of brief bio's.
