It is almost certainly British but that's as far as I can go. Bonne chance.

what an awesome find!!! British for sure and probably from the first settlers over here. Would love to know the story behind it! I can't imagine what the little hole in the bottom is for.. It would have been mounted to something i would think, but what? lucky you...good luck!!

I'll drop Hem a note since he hasn't been around for awhile. I'm sure he can shed some light.

Thanks for all your replys, I still have no idea what it's from, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up to high, as that's just how I am. It's had almost 700 hits on my MD'ing forum and still nothing. Does anyone know of a good family coat of arms person/historian/web site I should be asking. Thanks blunderbuss2 for any and all help. This really is driving me crazy!! first dig of the year, and only a short one in my own yard, and I may have beat all other digs to come this year.. nature of the game I guess.
As for this site, I really!! like it. so much awesome stuff on here. I can't say enough about what it has to offer my 'inner collecter'!!
