I've been looking at this all week, but somehow I never paid attention to the partial label on the top inside edge. I read what was left and saw "made in Italy" so I bought it with my reward points which gave me a 50% discount. The body is square 6" x 6" and it's 10" tall. It's an amber gold glass finished in a powder oxide technique called "Scavo". It makes the piece look pitted and old as if it had been buried in the ground like old Roman glass you see in the museums. I think it's a quality piece. What's left of the of the label says "......RTIN what looks like the bottom of a "V" an "E" and maybe the bottom of a "Z" "Montelupo Fio........... "MADE IN IT.... I've looked online and all I can find is Montelupo is in Tuscany somewhere and they do ceramics but no mention of glass. Mystery solving time again ! -Mike-

    Scavo Glass Technique
"This glass imitates the effect caused by long periods spent underground. During manufacture, a mixture of several powders is dispersed on the surface of the object at a temperature of about 800'C. These add the special effect of opaqueness and colouring. To improve adhesion, the piece is heated again..." from F. Deboni's book, MURANO , page 372.

Thanks to vetraio50 for filling in the blanks on the label. At least the bottom half. It should read as follows:

    ARTINVETRO ....(INDUSTRIA VETRARIA SNC ?)
    Montelupo Fiorentino
    MADE IN ITALY
