The 5-cent Migratory Bird Treaty commemorative stamp was first placed on sale in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1966, in conjunction with the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources conference. Designed by Burt E. Pringle of Jacksonville, Florida, this stamp commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the treaty that protects migratory birds in Canada and the United States. It was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 115 million stamps was authorized.
