Newly acquired stock certificate for Richardson's Centennial Farm Gate. The certificate is for one five dollar share dated October 10, 1882. An excellent "go-with" for the Salesman's Sample (Demonstrator) model in my collection. The gate was patented by Joseph M. Richardson, of Elmira, New York, patent number 181,985, September 5, 1876.
The patent claims the swiveling pulley system eliminates the wear on the operating rope or chain of his earlier patent number 133,057, November 12, 1872, and the George Smith, of Providence, Rhode Island, patent number 86,184, January 26, 1869. Both of these may be viewed in other postings.
The W. H. Wright, of Rochester, New York, patent number 100,484, March 1, 1870 is also included.

Another great posting, love your collection..... "they" as tom stated would be short critters, lol. I never seen any stock creature that a fence or gate would hold... if they wanted out
