An early 20th century silver, plique-a-jour, split pearl and amethyst pendant. Unmarked but very much in the style of Herman & Speck. Anyone with any information on the possible maker would be appreciated. The pendant has the green, violet and white colours associated with the suffragette movement.
Perfect and original aside from a small break to the chain on one side, as seen.

Thank you, its difficult to find good pieces, especially on a limited budget.
I love your glass collection, a very nice way of displaying it, kudos :)

I've always collected on a limited budget, especially in the early days. It's amazing how the treasures build up as your knowledge does (not necessarily your budget!). Now I'm slightly freaked out by my collection. Thanks again for sharing, it's always fun to check out what others are up to!

Ditto Jewels1900, I decided to join this site because of seeing some of your wondrous pieces, it's reassuring to know that there are items still out there to be had, and to see other examples of beautiful jewellery that can help identify something thats new to you.

Thats great period_gems. I wasn't sure whether to publish photos of my collection but I figured if I didn't share, nobody was going to share with me. So, I'm really happy that now I've gotten to share your collection & also others.

I'm sorry I can't help you with this one. It's got a very strong Belle Epoque or Edwardian feel to it. Other to say the mix of purple & green enamel is a design feature I associate with L & B. But the spacers are very H & S so I can see where you're going with that. I love how the middle stone is a bit wonky, a few of mine are like that too.

      Happy hunting

PS, do you focus on plique/jugend or branch out further?
    9. period_gems period_gems, 11 years ago
yes, the graduated teeny tiny split pearl lines seem to be more H&S'ish too.

I have branches all over. I just started with the jugendstil on here because it was easier to picture in the UKs terrible light. I do enjoy the jugendstil as it has stong, graphic lines and what I consider good design. I have slightly more of it because I like it more, its easier to identify (though still difficult) and I think slightly under appreciated by the general populous of the UK. The English bog standard items (Fenton, Charles Horner etc) are lesser quality of design and the enamel is a little more basic (to my mind) and the prices have picked up so much over the last couple of years that I've sold what few pieces I had because I would never pay those prices. I do love the Arts and Crafts (and have pieces I will be posting) but they are harder to identify, especially for me when I have such limited experience of them, so that I tend to get outbid on many items and I'm at work so cannot bid live.

Mostly I love enamel, any and all. I really really want landscape type enamels but they are rare and hard to find and still, I don't know enough to recognise the artists yet, or conversely I know more than others to know its not worth paying that much for someone.

I know what you mean about Horner/Fenton. Give me a piece of plique any day. For me, the trick in buying Arts & Crafts is just to buy what you like & whats good quality. I also like to take a risk so I'll buy if it feels right. Most of the time I do pretty well but every so often I bomb big time.

yeah, you have to take the risk to learn, even at a cost, most often at a cost. I'm usually at work however when things are auctioned so cannot bid in person and have to take a wild stab-in-the-dark.
Posting some Arts n Crafts today though, see what you think, if you'd like/be so kind :)

Do you not visit your local markets & shops? I love the ferret at the UK markets.

Whenever I have time, but I work weekdays and quite a few Saturdays, its become increasingly impossible.

I was just led but to this pendant I really adore it thank you for the show. I hope you have many other wonder pieces. Have a safe day & may it be all you would like it to be.
