These are 5-cent Appomattox commemorative stamps, the fifth and final in the series marking the Civil War Centennial, that were placed on sale through the Appomattox, Virginia, post office on April 9, 1965. Designed by Leonard Fellman, these stamps feature a silhouette of a soldier and stacked rifles against a blue and gray background. Above the image is the wording "Civil War Centennial," "Appomattox," and "With Malice Toward None..." These stamps were printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 115 million stamps were authorized.
