    Lisa-light…
    (30 items)

    Hello,
This pair have been a mystery for many years. Just recently someone posted a vase that had this outrageous bubble gum pink colour. It was identified as a Durand piece and then further information added said that the colour, was not often seen and was called, oops, I can't think of it. Rose was in the colour name. I'll look it up again and add the information.
I know this is a great leap but it felt as though it might be worth posting this pair to see if you who know could have a look and perhaps tell me what they are.
Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.
    Sincerely,
    Lisa

it should stop being a mystery... they're so beautiful the maker deserves to be known :)

Thank you, Austrohungaro, I think we will get there. Leah posted a vase along with her story about it being a joke present because it was so badly damaged and poorly repaired. It was the same outrageous bubble gum pink. I believe Loetz Buddies? wrote in to say that it was indeed Durand and the colour is called Lady Gay Rose. Does that sound right?
Thank you to vetraio50 Loetzbuddies, aghcollect, and Manikin for taking a look. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them. I either have it wrong about Loetzbuddies making the ID or my shades are just simply not Durand or Lady Gay Rose. ;o( Since Loetz Buddies has been by and didn't comment. Perhaps just busy and it was a flying visit. We will have to wait and see.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Thank you Racer4four, Czechman, PhilDavidAlexanderMorris, and Moonstone lover21. Leah and Inky thank you for your kind remarks. I am going to have a friend visit this afternoon and I will see if I can get some help with my library. I have some Durand books it is just a matter of having them read to me. It would be a lot easier if I had some art glass friends near by. ;o) But I am not complaining. I am here and the sun is out and the snow has apparently stopped. It is a good day and I have a puzzle to solve. What is better? Nuttin'. ;o)

Woaah! They look like banana tree leaves, and with this lovely "gay lady rose" must give a wonderful ambiancing light! Do you plan to use them on a lamp or bulb?
    6. Lisa-lighting Lisa-lighting, 11 years ago
Yes, Kyratango. I do use the shades in my collection. These are a little too large for my favourite lamp but it doesn't stop me using them. ;o) I have the lamp posted on here with small Quezal shades. They are pretty on sconces too. I have company helping me with my Durand the man and his glass. Nothing so far. There is one very small section on shades but the shapes shown are just Quezal shapes for the most part. I will let you know if I find anything of interest. Thank you for your interest.

Yes Lisa, I believe you are right! They are probably Durand and very rare in shape and color. Fostoria and Durand were very similar and did not sign their shades, but Fostoria did gold interiors and Durand did many colors, including bright red. That you have a pair is great!

      Dear Johann,
I went through a little Larson spiral bound book on Durand and Durand a man and his glass. I found green on cream pulled feather and they looked right. I found examples of lady Gay Rose being used as described as a layer over cream and there was one mention of a decor using a pink lining however nothing I have comes close to the shape of these. I will keep looking and for now until we know better I think they are Durand, possibly? They certainly are different to any of the shades in my collection. There are more out there we just have to find them. Do you know of any books other than the two I mentioned that are on Durand? With regard to shades, art nouveau American I have both Roberts books, Steuben and Tiffany what are your must haves?
      Sincerely ,
      Lisa

Thank you Sean. Good of you to take the time. I appreciate it.

I think Roberts was the best. Look at your fitter. It is rough ground, not smooth. Another indication that it is Durand.

the shade is a beauty! So I've read that Durand only made shades to order for third parties and never marked them. If true it's prolly very difficult if at all possible to get a concrete attribution. It's would be nice to see an in-focus shot of the fitter end along with measurements. Here's another also posted on CW:

Hello Lisa, very nice shades and I do have one in my collection. These shades definitely Durand and they were the only firm to have done this with a bright red iridescent linings. Check page 26 "Collecting Art Nouveau Shades" 1972 by Darrah L. Roberts. Hope this help.

It really does help, thank you. I was getting stuck on the way that Lady Gay Rose is described as being Red. My shades are not at all red but rather a hot bubble gum pink lining. Now I get it. Thank you again. I would love to see this shade listed somewhere with the shape as Durand. I have never run across this shape either not to mention the obvious lining. This has been a very fruitful exercise for me thanks to all of you who popped in for a look and those of you who where so generous and helpful. I love this group. What a fabulous web resource. Thank you everyone. I am so grateful.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

"Corning Museum of Glass" have the same shade displayed in their gallery and listed as Durand shade. I've posted the same shade 8 months ago.....do check it out!

      Dear Jamdan,
Thank so much. I will be sure to look the next time I get to Corning. I was lucky to arrive last time a day before they dismantled the big collection of Steuben. I went to work with my camera and captured as much as I could. I have yet to see the new part of the C MOG. I will go as soon as I can manage it.
The downtown place is all Remington Bronze now I think. No art glass though unless they changed their minds.
Must sleep now. Thank you again for all your help. It is really good of you to be so generous with your time and knowledge.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa
