Hello,.. wisdom needed.!!
Does anyone know what this is called.?
Its approx age.?
What wood it is.?
Or anything else very clever about it...!! It was my great Aunts and belonged to her mother before her which puts it around the `ownership` 100 years mark at least.. before that i dont know anything else .
Help please.. thank you lots.
Chris.
Very nice "Secretary with hutch /bookcase " love it ,
I would have to say it would be a type of secretary desk. Either the pictures or my eyes are a little fuzzy but it looks like hard pine. I think saying it is 100 years old would probably be close. Looks like the back may have been repaired or replaced on the top portion. The back of the bottom portion looks right. Very nice piece.
Agree it is a desk/ secretery-- similar in style to a "butlers desk", with the fold out top drawer that turns into the writing surface with storage nooks behind it.
This is not as wide as a typical butlers desk and overall looks smaller in size.
The bottom is unusual with the glass and shelves. More typical are drawers below as well.
It looks to be from the very late 19th/ early 20th century, so I would certainly call it antique.
