Early 20th century plique-a-jour dragonfly brooch. Lovely shading to the enamel. Sadly chipped to the body, but fortunately not to the wings, and probably missing back legs.
Unmarked but clearly a good German firm. One of my favourites and it ended up costing me nothing!! yay!
My last bit of plique until I can find some more somewhere :(
Lots of other treasures coming up soon though :)
Yes, he's a nice'un & in need of some back legs. My big plique butterfly is in need of a leg. Next time I'm in London (I say that like it's going to be soon - I wish!) I'll get my jeweller over there to replace it with his laser soldering thingo. It's amazing what they can repair now without damaging the enamel.
Good find for next to nothing.
Wait a mo. A version of this guy is in 'the book'. Page 266, M & M. Similar wing design, same head & front legs, same styled tail. Main difference is book piece has 'gem' for body & yours has enamel. Considering the head is identical, with identical red eyes, I think it's a good comparison. Have a look.
OMG.....I love this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes Jewels, Meyle n Mayer was my best guess but I'm still not certain.
thanks Rose :)
Can't wait seeing your other treasures, even not plique!
Nice!!!
You may try my trick to repair enamel: uv curing resin and permanent marker!
