Arts & Crafts silver blister pearl brooch.
The large blister pearl within a scalloped mount, to the interwoven acorn leaf and blackcurrant/floral accents and rope-twist surrounds. Length 4.5cms.
Difficult to attribute, it has Gaskin, Articifer's Guild and other similarities.
Help and opinions welcome :)
So lovely!
So enjoying sharing these jewels.
Lovely! I hope you wear it!
Thanks Jewels1900, me too.
And sadly not AmberRose, for I am a male, and they don't really suit me. I need a wife who appreciates these things.
No way period_gems, you're a bloke! I didn't see that coming. It's not that I don't think men can do jewellery (all the best ones can!). There's just no hint in any of your posts. Except maybe that I always want to tell you where you can get your pieces restored because my first priority is always to wear my jewels.
You'll have to find someone who can wear them out for you.
There was a fair hint in the last post :P
A good/clever restorer is hard to find though so any help is appreciated, I'm all for honest, upfront, quality restoration, its when a dealer refuses to admit the possibility (and to anyone who knows what they are doing OBVIOUS) restoration of enamel or replacement drop etc and restorers who come highly recommended who do a rubbish job or when you suggest to a restorer you want a drop and they decide they cannot do that, so without telling you they replace it with something you did not ask for.
Moan over :D
U huh, someone to share a passion with is always a pleasant thing.
Nothing gives me the pips more than a dodgy repair. For my enamels (including plique) I chat to a jeweller named Simon Mower (google him). He does a good, sympathetic repair & he knows his jewellers so he can do a good Gaskin or Sandheim repair so the piece looks right. He's very popular so the best thing is to call him & confirm a day. Drop your pieces in the morning, pick them up in the arvo.
For examples he did some work on my Gaskin, largest plique pendant (resin behind a crack for stability) & the GoH with abalone & enamel (enamel touch up & replacement drop.
I've googled, he seems like he should be rather good, and fast from what you say, my last enameller (I foolishly told there was no hurry) took a year before I basically said I want them back already. Not fun.
So thank you :)
No worries. You only get the day turn-over if you arrange it in advance. Otherwise .... as I said, he's very busy.
