I have had this for a number years . I believe it to be a Victorian Vinegarette......or for holding Smelling Salts. Has hand chafed engraving on it. See no marks on it, and not sure what the Metal or IF it is Silver ( well real old silver ) ?? Lots of Patina on it
Any ideas, or info?
Thanks CW friends!!

Soooo elegant and beautiful
Update...
I had this tested today. Yes Sterling Silver. When they did the scratch test, they did not come across any Brass. The lady said it is hard to tell, but the Jeweler said she did a good scratch test (small near bottom) and nothing bubbled up to show any other metal. She said it could be thick sterling still...but unknown to her. She weighed it for me...........it is 72 gms

hi antiquerose happy new year..
it looks to me like a silver pepper pot that's lost its base , part of a set , are there any marks inside the lid or around the inside neck of the pot??
