This unusual item consists of a carved, hollow wooden handle with a retractable steel awl shaped point on each end. Some ideas thrown out were a dental pick, a sail makers hole punch, etc. It is a bit delicate and the points don't lock open so whatever it was used on must have been soft and pliable. Any ideas?
Looks like a weaving tool.
