Just recently (4 or 5 days ago in April '14) purchased this nice little Harley Davidson porcelain, curved, can shape sign measures 11 X 6 3/4" straight across the back or 11" X 8" around the curve and is marked "made in U. S. A." I have one question that I need help finding answer to "Is this original or reproduction ??" I've heard no one has the reproducing rights to this sign and I've looked at 100's of reproduction signs the past few days and have not found this sign anywhere, not even on ebay, will appreciate any information that I can validate that it is original or not. Many thanks !!! Jimbo

Don't know what you paid for this sign but if it is original it is a very valuable sign. Can't tell from the pictures but is it curved? Very nice find.

Poleclimber I did a little looking this afternoon and found a repop of this and another Harley sign from the late 80's. I own over 300 original porcelain signs and only 2 reproductions which are both of these Harley signs which I bought new from the General Store at Old Town in central Florida. The sign you have and my repop look identical...except the repop signs have no grommets in the holes. Also its pretty obvious the color on your sign is much more vivid than on my reproductions. I believe you made a nice find. Hope you can find a fair appraisal on your treasure.

Hi shovelhead, no wonder I can't find any original porcelain signs to buy, you own them all--wow, 300 of them, would love to see that collection. I hope you're right about this being a good find, do you have any recommendation on a place for an online appraisal ?? Many thanks for the time and effort you spent today on this, we sincerely appreciate it, you owed me nothing and yet you gave a lot, I see a man with a big heart. Thanks again and best of luck to you.

Richard Amistadi is probably the man thats going to be able to help you. He has written several books on advertizing and prices. His web address is http://www.gaspumps.info/gassigns.shtml
Best of luck and I'll be anxious to hear what you learn.

Hi shovelhead, I apologize for a stupid mistake, when doing the posting I had 3 other signs on my desk and was looking at the wrong one when I said there was a grommet on top and bottom, after rereading your comment I checked and there are no grommets on this sign, I would have bet this weeks paycheck (if I had one) that there was, my apologizes to you and everyone else, I edited that statement out of the posting. Will still try to find a contact link to Richard Amistadi and let you know what he says, thanks again and I apologize again.
