UPDATE: Stuart Era Memento Mori Enameled Skull Device Mourning Ring

Another fine example of a 17th Century Stuart Era Memento Mori mourning ring.

Crafted in 22 karat solid gold this ring depicts an incredibly detailed enameled skull and crossbones device upon a bed of blonde plaited hair under a fully faceted rose cut Stuart rock crystal. It is flanked by two twisted high karat gold cipher wire initials.

The late Baroque styled enameled acanthus shoulders still retain most of their enameling as does the radiant burst design to the rear.

UPDATE: Dates to the 1690s, the Stuart Era per recent appraisal. I listed this ring previously as Georgian, however, I was incorrect. The ring is much earlier.

Acanthus symbolizes mourning, so this ring was probably given to a mourner during the funeral of the deceased.
