LT Henry Chancellor of the famous BUCKTAIL Regiment, 150th PA who was mortally Wounded at Gettysburg.
A hard to find likeness of LT Henry Chancellor-- the SAME pose used in the unit history 150th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, by LTC Chamberlin in 1905 (Shown in last photo).
The image shown in the unit history shows a cropped version of my photograph-- my CDV shows 8 frock coat buttons visible, while only 5 buttons are visible in the unit history version.
Chancellor was shot through the thigh during the fighting on 1 JUL 63-- desribed on page 130 of the unit history:
"Lieutenant Chancellor, of Company B, was shot through the thigh a few moments after the adjutant was wounded, sustaining a painful fracture, from the effects of which he died on the 7th of August. He had hardly passed the limits of boyhood, but in intelligence, courtesy, courage and all the traits which constitute a useful and efficient officer, he had few superiors."
LT Chancellor survived for a little over a month. His leg was amputated but still LT Chancellor died of his battlefield wound at the Seminary Hospital at Gettysburg on 5 AUG 63.
Here is the history of LT Chancellor from the HDS:
Henry Chancellor, Jr
Residence Philadelphia PA;
Enlisted on 8/25/1862 as a 2nd Lieutenant.
On 8/25/1862 he was commissioned into "B" Co. PA 150th Infantry
He died of wounds on 8/5/1863 at Gettysburg, PA
(Died at Seminary Hospital)
He was listed as:
* Wounded 7/1/1863 Gettysburg, PA (Wouned in left thigh, leg amputated)
Promotions:
* 1st Lieut 11/8/1862
I do not know the photographer of the CDV as it has no backmark. Image does have an old pencil ID on the back of "Lieut Harry Chancellor".
During the Battle of Gettysburg, the 150th PA Regiment suffered horrendous casualties. The Regiment lost (KIA, WIA and Missing) 264 of the 397 men engaged during the battle! The Regiment has two monuments on the field at Gettysburg.
Reproduction of my images in any form is prohibited.

Thanks Scottvez, you never let me down with your posts. Hope everything is well with "y'all". Haven't been to the mainland since we met at Richmond.
Thanks buss-- I am well and busy!
Funny you mention Richmond-- I have a show next weekend in Mansfield Ohio. It is one of the best all eras militaria shows out there.

It's fabulous mate!
Have one of our planes going up for a paint job, but just can't plan a schedule anything more than 1-3 weeks in advance. Certainly not going to pay 750+ for an airline ticket to go to a gun show and would still have to pay to get from wherever the plane is going & be back there when it returns. Guess we were truly meant to suffer! Tell all the people I don't know that I said "Hi". "Jump-seat status" sounds good but is usually more like "steerage class"!
Hiya Scott, great post! Hey, I've been to that Mansfield show a lot! I have friends who are dealers there. I bet we know some of the same folk. Wonder if anyone in my family is heading there this year...I'll have to do a poll and if so I'll send them to see you as my representative :))
What did you think of the show, amber?
It is one of my longer show drives (just under 500 miles) but well worth the trip. The show has some great displays and reenactor events that cannot be found at other shows.
Send your friends/ family my way-- always looking for new buyers!!

Amber, you didn't strike me as the type. Maybe I will spring for the fare if you think you might make it? I've got some euros burning a hole in my pocket. LOL
Scott, all that and more. I will absolutely put the good word out.
Blunder, my whole family collects militaria...for generations. My Mom was just telling me today about her Civil War sword score.
Amber, I didn't know you were "one of us" outside of CW! Beautiful, intelligent & with good sound interests. I'll give you a "love" clk on the side.
Thanks for looking vetraio.

Mansfield was a GREAT SHOW-- as usual-- lots of good images to buy and selling was brisk!
Amber, I didn't run into any of your folks at the show-- were they unable to attend?
scott
Thanks for looking petey and gritty!

Thanks again tintyper-- kind of wish that I had held on to this one.
Bucktail images don't come along all that often.
