    (103 items)

    Greetings Fellow Collectors,
I have been looking through some of my favorite items to post, since this will be number "100"! I have enjoyed looking at other peoples collectibles, and sharing some of mine with everyone here. I am looking forward to doing some sharing and looking at unique items in the future also. Getting back to my selection process, I chose something that wasn't at the top or the bottom of my list, although I did find it quite unusual. I purchased this cup at a yard sale for a dollar, a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was something older due to the crackling in the porcelain, and the other details such as it being hand painted in Japan . It also caught my attention due to it having " Whistle For Milk" painted on it. I purchased it and waited till I got home to check it out. After examining the cup, I realized that the bird on the handle was hollow where the tail feathers were. Naturally it dawned on me to blow on the tail feathers. To my surprize and glee, a beautiful whistle came from the bird, thus explaining the whistle for your milk! I dont know if this was a novelty item, or was actually used when a refill was needed. I had never seen anything like this before, although I did find several others on one of the web sale sites that were not exact copies. I tried researching the company without a lot of luck, and it appears to be an English company, which has been around at least since the 1900's. Sorry I took up so much time on this posting, bit it felt good again talking about a good find, and some of the details and history of it. Anyone that knows anything else about this item or the company, please feel free to comment. Not sure what category this goes in, so I am going to choose the closest I can find. As always, thanks for looking and stopping by. Thrifty

I had a taller, dark brown one that said “Whistle for your beer”. It sounded even louder with liquid in it. I believe these were novelty items made in the 1950-60’s period, and I would say yours was probably made for the American market as it has Bluebirds on it, not found in the UK

Thanks AmberRose so much for the love and comments! I always enjoy your "finds" and collections! I definitely could not pass it by, even though it isnt something I usually look for. I think I am one of those oddball collectors that just grab up items that catch there eye, rather than the collector who is usually focused on certain things. Thanks for stoppingn by, and I will talk to you later! Thrifty

Thanks PhilDavidAlexanderMorris for the love and comments! It does make a loud "whistle", but I wish it sounded more like a bird!lol. It is definitely loud, and would get someones attention real quick. Good hearing fom you again, haven't seen the famous photo in a while! Thanks for stopping by, talk to you later. Thrifty

Thanks racer4four for the love and comments. After trying to look mine up, I found several different styles on a certain sales site. None of them were a perfect match although the size and style looked to be the same. It might be due to the handpainting of the cups... there may not have been an exact pattern to go by, just a description. I am still trying to find out more on this type cup, and I will post it if I find something interesting. Thanks for stopping by, and I will talk to you later. If you get a chance, post yours on here.
