This had been in my aunt's china cabinet for as long as I can remember. She was 95 when she died in 1992 and my Mother passed it down to me. I do not know much about it. It is about 9-10" tall with the lid.

Welcome! This beautiful piece was probably what they would call a chocolate pot, as that was what was fashionable at the time it was made. The mark indicates that it was made in Nagoya, Japan between 1870-1910 by NPSK- DOW SIE COT URE- KATO SHUBIE.
The Nippon Collectors Society only concentrate on items with the mark “NIPPON” (Which loosely translates to JAPAN) on them which was required on imports to the US from 1891 onwards. In 1921, the mark was changed to “Japan”
AS yours doesn’t have either word on it, we can assume it was made prior to 1891.

Thank you so much for the information. This info just makes it more fascinating to have something that is that old.
