Interested if anyone knows if the artwork often found on the inside of old steamer trunk lids can help date the trunk. This one obviously has a very victorian look to it. Any comments are welcome. Cheers, KP
I have this same lithograph on my trunk and have seen it on others. It is from around the turn of the century 1900's.... However I would not date a trunk from the lithograph only as they were produced for many years.
Thanks so much. Interesting to hear you have a trunk with the same lithograph. Your date of early 1900s is consistent with the little bit of history we know of my trunk. Any idea where I might find hinges for old trunks?
Look up website "This Old Trunk" -- he may have parts for you.... scroll down on the trunk showcase at the bottom he has parts...
Nice chromalithograph (color lithograph). These can help date trunks as they did change from the 1860.s (where many of them were pages taken from French fashion catalogs) to the turn of the century. I would have to see the trunk to give an accurate date, but early 1900's is certainly close. I have many hinges and would be happy to help you out.
