This beautiful pottery figure is probably Olmec or Nayarit, but was manufactured for the Museo. It's marked 'handmade' and 'Museo Nacional de Antropologia' and there's another maker's mark which i think says 'TEV COCO Mexico' and has a heart within a heart symbol. is anyone familiar w/ that symbol/mark?

I think this is so ugly it is cute. I did a little research and found out the Museo makes reproductions of actual items in their collection and sells them to visitors to help support the place. They do have a catalog of items but I didn't go there. Hope this helps a little.

thank you flhrjr2! i looked thru the catalog and although they have some similar ones, this one isn't listed. this one was purchased there in the early 70s, according to the woman who sold it to me. thanks again for your help!

I had to do a translation of the site which was a bit more than I can comprehend even when translated. I didn't look for an archive but there was a link where you could email them with questions.
