This bizarre creation came from our local GW. It's 13" long and about 7" tall and weighs a ton. Well not really, but it is pretty heavy. The ermine, weasel or what ever it is seems to be modeled quite well. While the bird it's captured and the base seems crude and unfinished. The under side looks to be a plaster like material but you can see finger marks in it like clay. A very strange piece but there's something about it I like. -Mike-
NOTE: I was watching a special on Nova (7-13-14') about Leonardo DaVinci . They were authenticating a drawing that was attributed to him. During the show they used his "Lady with an Ermine" painting as an example of his technique. I thought where have I seen that animal before. This sculpture that's where ! Ermine are members of the weasel family and voracious hunters. So this one bringing down a meadow lark is spot on. Now I still need to find out who made it. -Mike-
I woke up one morning to a ferret stealing items from are my purse
Hope he was your pet and not a wild one ,,,lol
LoL!! Not mine, a friend's.
This guy looks really mean.. he killed a poor meadow lark. I'm thinking this is a marmot or a weasel. I know weasels can kill chickens at least the one on Looney Toons...lol
It is very well modelled. I'm surprised it is not signed.
I looked all over and didn't see a signature or initials anywhere. I'll have to check it over again I might have missed it. There's any number of places it could be that's for sure.
Man Mike, you have me Looney lol!
By eye I have overlooked a lot of marks on pieces, I've found that photographing every inch then zooming in on photos really helps.
....and wearing your glasses and using a magnifying glass too....lol
Yeah, yeah, yeah... I need those too. Must get some.
