Imperial German Reservist’s stein of Gefreiter Eckert. Eckert served with the Royal Saxon Karabinier Regiment, 5th Squadron, from 1901 through 1904. This unit was garrisoned in Borna, which is about 30 km south of Leipzig and was attached to the XIX Army Corps. This 1/2L 11 3/4” tall porcelain stein was made by G. Wieninger Sen. Lindwurmstr. 93 in München Germany. The colorful side scenes are accented with hand painted highlights. The central panel shows a heavy cavalryman riding at gallop, his lance at the ready. He wears the metal tombak helmet of this unit. Above the rider is the arms of Saxony, with the unique yellow and black stripes. Below is the unique shoulderboard of the Saxon Karabiniers. The left side-scene depicts a squadron of heavy cavalry on the verge of an attack, the right scene shows the Karabinier saying goodbye to his wife or ladyfriend. The ornate pewter lid is surmounted by a rider and leaping horse. The lithophane is of a cavalryman astride his steed waving goodbye to a lady on a balcony above him. Saxon steins of any description are rare, this one especially because of the unit, which is rarely found. This stein is flawless, other than a missing lance from the finial.

Guess it would be a sacrilege to drink a Corona out of any of these?
