BelleEpoque
(98 items)
This lovely long guard or muff chain comes from Germany and it dates back to the end of the 19th century. The heavy silver chain is not marked but it must be 835 silver or higher. It is ornamented with pretty chrysoprase stones and scarab-like silver beads. I wear it as a necklace but it could also be used as watch or pendant chain.
bEAUTIFUL!!
Very beautiful BelleEpoque!
Hi BelleEqoque, looks a little danish to me. Looks very nice to wear.
BelleEpoque, what makes you sure of the dating? Your necklace is stunning! Do you have a guess about the ring I posted the other day that I believe is German or Dutch? You seam to know your stuff ;-). I can't find information about the mark.
Thanks Sean, and everyone the rest for the loves! Jewels, you are right, it might be Scandinavian but I bought it in Germany, so I just assumed. Elisabethan, I think this couldn't be older thatn 1910-ish since this kinds of long guards along with muffs went out of fashion by then. As for your ring, I really like it, but I think it may be from the 40's or 50's. I'll keep an eye out for the mark, but most of the literature I have is for an earlier period.
Ok, now I see what you wrote. Thankyou for the information! I'm not wiching for a certain period, just want to know a bit more about the ring. But I hope it's from the 50's then, 40's feels awkward from that region. I really do need some good books on jewellry :-). Thankyou for your kind answer!
Hi BelleEqoque. I think you have a great period Scandi guard there. I've seen later, shorter, Scandi bead chains but nothing as nice as this. Because I like to wear big pendants I'm very fond of guard chains and am always on the look out for them. I'll post some some from my collection when I have time.
This chain would look very nice with my owl vesta ...
Jewels, thanks so much for the input. You have convinced me that the guard is more Skonvirke than Jugendstil, so that is set, I will edit the title accordingly :) I hope to see more of your own enviable pieces soon!
