With the area sitting on vast reserves of Anthracite, coal mining was once a big industry in the region. This 3Cm in diameter UMWA medallion recalls those days.
The next two photos have a feature that guarantees return of the chain and attached keys if found. Martz Trailways is still in business and doing well, with daily schedules to and from Wilkes-Barre and Scranton to NYC and Philadelphia and to mountain and shore Casinos. They also have an expansive tour and excursion business.
The second tag is from the same company, but was issued before Martz joined the Trailways system. Notice the Art-Deco graphics.
Both Martz tags are of about the same dimensions 5 by 2Cm. No manufacturer is listed on the Martz Bus Lines one, and the Martz Trailways one has the maker lister as Tagmaster..made in USA.
The next photo depicts a well designed promo item from a long defunct local food store which also had a great restaurant in it. The disk is of transparent plastic, and is 3.5Cm in diameter. Percy Brown's was right downtown, and was noted for quality and service. Cheaper chains, and flight from the cities did this establishment in. With a return to urban living, concerns such as this would be most welcomed..but, alas, is not to be….at least not in the foreseeable future.
Thank you gc and v-50 for your loves on these items…..
