Perhaps the most over used term used by dealers and collectors of Victorian art glass is "rare". I seldom use it. However, in this case, I think it best describes this Alexandrite fairy lamp. I have no documentation to support it, but I believe this Alexandrite shade was produced by Thomas Webb. I would certainly welcome any information to the contrary.

These images do not accurately capture the color of the shade. the blue is very difficult to capture in any lighting condition. However, I think you can appreciate the heat reactive colors in this piece.

If you are not familiar with Webb's Alexandrite (I certainly wasn't) the following article will provide a little insight into what it is and how it is made.

Before retiring and settling in Colorado, this was my "vanity plate" on my car. My brother used MESapp, which was his name Marion Emory.

Nice one Jim. You can check if it's Webb by shining a UV light on it. If it glows bright green, then it's Webb

When I first received this lamp, I invited a local rock hound to my home with his professional grade UV light. The alexandrite does indeed glow. I learned a lot that day about UV spectrum. Of course, being a rock hound, my glass collection was a new experience for him. We both learned a lot.
