This was my grandmothers, but I haven't a clue what it is. Anyone know?

It's about 3" x 2". Says "made in france" on the back bar part. It's pretty heavy considering it's so small. The back is metal, but I don't know what the front is made of. It's very shiny and grayish black, I know for sure it's not plastic. It's either stone or metal.

    Thanks for any info!

Hello, This was probably your great-gramas. And you should have found two! It is a shoe buckle or ornamentation. And yes they were very popular in Paris, were Fashion began. The woman could clip these onto the front of her shoe or high-heel-shoe....and Voila!...the shoes were now different & very fancy! They were worn more in the late 1800's in the Victorian Era. Try to find the other. Happy hunting! Franny

NEVER in the years that I've had this did I ever think it was a shoe buckle!!! Thank you so much for identifying this piece for me!!! Sadly, I only have one. I wish I had its match. Maybe I can find one online somewhere. Thanks again Franny!

Sewn on a velvet or leather band, it could make a great bracelet.

This is beautiful. You have a little treasure there. It's made of cut steel which is very collectible, especially when in good condition, i.e. rust free. Cut steel pieces can date back to the Georgian period in some cases, but I don't know how old yours is? Make sure you protect it from damp conditions.

      Lucky you! :)

Thanks Jazx! I appreciate the input! It's kinda funny.... I've had this piece since 1992 and never knew what it was until I posted it here. I thought it was a new piece. lol

The stamp says, made in France, so unless the fastening is a replacement, the buckle is definitely 20th century.

It's definitely all original, I just never thought it would be something so cool. lol
