This print hung in the bankers home in a small Iowa town. My mom
always said she liked it & when the couple passed, it was given to her.
Now (her daughter!) I have it. It's actually matted & framed
beautifully considering its been in the same frame for at least 45 years!
The frame is getting a little rough, but otherwise, is in really good
    condition.
The artist name must be under the matting & I am unable to locate
any information on it. The picture depicts a little old lady darning a
sock & it looks like she may have pricked her finger as she is looking at
her finger with her needle in the other hand.

Does anyone know anything about this print?

I have this same painting. It has been in our family for years. I would love to know the history, artist or anything regarding this picture.

I purchased this picture today at an antique store in Michigan. It was very old. I took it out of the frame and found a title printed at the bottom: A Hopeless Task. In the bottom right hand corner it also said: This supplement is issued with Truth for (what looks like a date of) January 1901. The date is quite faded but I think I have that right. Truth is apparently a publication of some sort-still trying to find more info on that. The hopeless task seems to be darning a sock that has that big of a hole in it. Between the picture and the back of the frame was a couple pages of a newspaper also dated 1901. It was the Chicago Chronicle dated Wed April 17, 1901. The newspaper was so fragile it broke apart in my hands. I'm not sure if there is a connection between the paper and the painting or not. Except that I can only surmise that the print must be at least that old. In the top left corner of the picture there seems to be a faint name (probably of the artist) ending in what looks like ..ley. I can't make out the first part of the name. Perhaps yours shows it clearly.
