I've never seen a crucifix like this before. What is it? Where is it from? How old is it? What in the world?

Place where Jesus was crucified was called Golgotha, the place of a skull. ( Mark 15:22; John 19:17) I believe Catholic and possible Irish . Look at one I posted below .

Yours looks like the Jesus and other pieces are plastic . Are they ?

I'd say Southern Italian. It would have been heavily framed. The condition is very good. It looks grotesque but it highlights the suffering of Christ. They don't call it the Passion of Christ for nothing. It is a 'tableau' I think.

These "tableau's" were very common in the Province of Quebec, Canada and when you travelled around the countryside and came to a junction of roads, large life size depictions of the Crucifixion with all the same accoutrements were present and are still to be found. Many homes had very similar tableaus as yours. RER(BOB)

Wow. Thank you all for the help. I'm Catholic but have never seen this in forty years. I'll be looking more online tonight thanks to all your help. Manikin- I thought they were plastic, too, until I looked closer and started playing with it. The pieces are metal.
