I have a number of old Zebco reels and decided to try to find more. Not long ago I found the Zebco model 22 and in the last couple of days I found the Zebco model 11. Zebco history tells me the model 22 was the second reel Zebco made, in 1953. The model 11 was the third reel made in 1953 also and remained in production until 1972. The first reel Zebco produced was known as the "Standard" made in 1949, for four to six months. Some years later the "Standard" became the model 33. I've seen photos of the "Standard", it looks like the 11 and 22. The "Standard" was manufactured from 1949 until 1954 in three different iterations: The first standard was built in 1949 and is noted by its black spinner head. The second standard was built between 1950 and 1952 and had a red spinner head. The third standard was built in 1953 through 1954 and had a tan spinner head. I have just located a "Standard" and in the process of buying it. I haven't learned what color the spinner head is yet but being the first "Standard" I'll have it doesn't matter, hope it's black. It turns out to be tan, which is fine with me. My information comes from That-Zebco-Guy, Dick Braun who is a collector of Zebco reels.
had a model 22 when i was about 5 years old
caught my first bass with it and won a bet with my grandfather.

I have edited the story about the Zebco Standard with the help of The-Zebco-Guy, Dick Braun. Dick is a collector of Zebco. Had a nice conversation with him on the phone today. In the above article some dates have changed and the order of the red and black spinner head has changed. Thanks Dick
The standard went into production on 13 May 1949 and lasted until 1954. The next reel was the model 22 and then the model 11 (the model 11 was a little less expensive than the 22. The 4th model Zebco was the Model 33 and it came out in 1954/55. There are two different dates as the reel was introduced in 1954 but most of the advertizements show 1955. The last model of the Standard was discounted in 1954 to clear out remaining inventory and was reduced from the price of $17.50 to $12.50 and shows it on the box that the reel came in. Neat to find one of the later box's. hope this little blog helps.
Thanks Dick, for your comments on the early Zebco's. Your expertise is always welcome. I almost called you the other day as I now have the standard with the red spinner head, I was very excited to get it. Now if I could find the black spinner head.
I now have the standard with the black spinner head and the box. Will try to post photos later today. One just sold on eBay, 3-18-2011, did anyone see what it brought?
$163.05
I didn't see the one that sold on 3/18 but i saw one that sold a few months back in the box with directions and warranty card for $39.99
My father, Paul Sr. was a manufacturers rep for Zebco from the 50's until mid/late 70's. His territory included PA,MD, WVA, NY on up to Maine. [My uncle, Mack Shreve was one of R.D.'s first reps (he got my father into the business). His territory included OH,IN,IL,MI,MN and others]. After his passing I put much of his "samples" inventory into storage. Haven't looked at that stuff in 20 years. Anyone interested in photos if I do?

Model 11 I am askin how much it is worth lookin around. 1-200.00
Hi donnie dougan, I paid around $40 for my Zebco 11 and have seen them go higher and lower on eBay. Then, if the box and paper work come with the reel, expect to pay more. No box came with the one I bought. I think the buyer sets the value, what you are willing to pay.
I have a tan model 11 given to me by my grandfather, very cool. It is used to catch Catfish from Kansas to Colorado and wish it could tell all the stories it has caught lol.
Have a zebvo standard with black spinner head, am going to sell it, what should I start thr bidding at? chris.e.morvan@gmail.com
Hi Chris, It depends on the shape of the reel. I don't think it matters where you start, there are buyers out there looking for this reel. They will spend what it is worth to them. Maybe start at $15. If you do put it on auction have plenty of good photos to show including the spinner head. Good Luck
I just regained possession of the Model 11 (black spinner) I used as a kid. Alas, the rod couldn't be found. What rod(s) would have been used with the reel in the early 50's?
found a standard in a old garage a few years ago. looks to be a 54 vintage. but iam lookin for a spinner head and button for my black 33 i used since 59. anyone got any parts or can tell me where some are. any help will be greatly appreciated. up here inwiconsin. also nee d the olstyle anti rev. pawl that rides on the gear.
Use the search button on eBay. Type in "Vintage Zebco Parts". You should then be able to find what you are looking for. Good Luck............
Thanks officialfuel, senor_trunk and BELLIN68.
Mike, your post #17, did you find the parts you were looking for? Parts can be found on eBay, from time to time, when searching Zebco parts. I see your post is about 3 months old now. Some how I missed it, sorry.
I have 2 zebco model 11 reels on rods, one rod is white one rod is orange. I'm not sure of the year nor how to find the year, I do know they have like a rollerball instead of a thumb button. Any idea what these might be worth?
