When I found this item it was in need of cleaning. I've washed it but I still have no idea of what it is or its purpose. I bought it because of curiosity and it was something interesting. I think it was made in Germany.

Does it have depth or is it flat? I came across these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Wooden-tray-14-x-19-6-square-cut-glass-serving-dishes-4-each-/281330329475?pt=Dinnerware_Serving_Dishes&hash=item4180982783
I thought maybe the W was for Westmoreland, but I could not find the mark for Westmoreland the way it is in the picture.. I will look more

Also, I can't tell what the other marks are from your pic, other than the W are the marks numbers or patterns or both?

Thank you for the information. I never imagined that it could be a dish because it's heavy. The marks over the G makes me think of a crown. The surfaces aren't' flat, the patterns can be felt.

I'm not sure yet if that is what it is, I can't make out the letters, I can see the G now that you pointed it out, is it all letters? If so, which letters? I can see the "W" obviously =) If you can show more, I will try further!

Are you sure it isn't a glass brick for putting in a window frame?
    8. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 11 years ago
I wondered the same Gracay. It looks like a glass tile. But i could be way out, lol.

I don't know what it is and the lady I bought it from was just as clueless as me. But, the G seems to have a crown over it. The other side doesn't have the same pattern, it has one large X. It makes me wonder if that side was designed to hold the glass in place. It is heavy and thick. I know the markings mean something but I'm clueless.

To me they look like the glass tiles you see laid in pavements to let light into a basement, but this is only a suggestion, further research is definitely required. Good luck.

Thanks, maybe I can search images of your suggestion to see what I find.

I think I found the mark on your glass, ( "G" with a crown on top) - see the bottom of the list attached, it might help you find this http://www.sha.org/bottle/pdffiles/gLogoTable.pdf also look at Wikipedia (FWB) is listed on the right side under more info for the company "Gerresheimer Glass" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerresheimer. Made pharmaceutical products, hope this helps.

*Pharmaceutical is what comes up most, Wikipedia's info on this is more accurate
