I bought this beautiful little object from the estate of a Danish couple together with my Kahler Keramik and Michael Andersen vases, and was advised that this too was Danish.

Made from dark stoneware clay this vase is beautifully shaped, and in particular the opening of it shows great skill. The lip of the vase is recessed but is turned under so that the wall of the vase remains quite thin all the way through. Nicely finished on the bottom it has been glazed in a mix of dark and lighter browns with a satin gloss.
    75mm (3 in) tall and 100mm (4 in) wide

It is marked quite clearly on the bottom but I was not able to identify it.
Vetraio came to the rescue (again) and found it in getthatmonkeyoutofme's posts.
Heinz Engler, Germany, probably after 1957.

    Thanks everyone!

I would love some ideas from the cognoscenti! You around Jensen?

I have seen that signature here on CW. Perhaps it was Getthatmonkeoutofme?

GETTHATMONKEYOUTOFME SAYS: Heinz H. Engler was a important German designer and potter who designed well known tableware. He worked at the Arabia company in Helsinki as a designer 1956-1957.

Impressive memory, you have, vetraio! Now when it turns out to be German vase, I feel less bad about not recognising this mark! I wouldn't have been surprised, though, had it been Danish...

Done it again Vet! CW depends on you...... Thanks!
I had a look at GTMOOM last night but ran out of time.

With my limited knowledge I thought it did look Danish but interesting that it is German and that Engler worked at Arabia. His style certainly would have suited them.

Thanks as well Jensen.....we will remember this mark now!
