My adventures in Australian art glass (and art glass generally) started in 1993 when I visited Colin Heaneys workshop in Byron Bay, Northern NSW. I was excited by the whole process of glass making and stayed there for many hours, eventually buying this tall green vase.
I remember Colin had only finished annealing it the day before and he made up a price on the spot - $100. It was a lot for me back then (probably more so now)!

Colin Heaney is an ex-pat Canadian who after moving to Australia trained himself to blow glass and then started a career as an art glass creator that lasted 25 years or so. His work has always been highly collectible and is kept in many major museums. Colin no longer makes glass, instead he now designs silk prints for fashion items, with many prints based on his glass designs.

This vase is quite different to what people generally expect from Heaney glass and even then it seemed alone in the workshop. He is particularly well regarded for his iridescent glass such as this one posted by Vetraio50:

This is "a beaut", right down to the 'knots' in the mesh. Can you feel the mesh?
