We purchased this lamp many years ago and would now like to learn more about it. Available info is hard to comedy however. The nearest item to it is a German student table lamp. The sale tag on it reads "out of dismantled post office, Albany Vermont, 1898" If there is anyone out there who can steer me in the right direction to research this item I would be grateful.
Your student lamp was made by the Standard-Gillett Lighting Co. of 9-11 W. Michigan St., Chicago, Ill. ca. and is featured in their 1910 #30 catalogue (in reprint), but may have been manufactured many years earlier as well. It was made to burn Gasoline as it was cheaper than Kerosene at the time. Nice condition!
Here are some similar, but not in as good condition as yours. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11773543_lot-of-2-gravity-fed-student-lamps
