My Mother knew Mr. Wegner and this was direct from the Artist.
Wegner was born in Gnoien, Mecklenburg, and when he was a youth his family moved to Rostock. There he worked as a scene painter for the theater until he was recruited into the military in 1918. When he returned from his time in the service he attended the School of Applied Arts in Hanover, and opened his own studio there in 1924. He exhibited works at the Art Association in Hanover in 1927, and in 1929 he was included in the Neue Sachlichkeit exhibit in Amsterdam. His work was shown infrequently between 1933 and 1945, but at the end of the war became an instructor at the Vollkshochschule in Hanover. His work appeared in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe in the next few decades,. A retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Art Association in Hanover in 1970. He died in that city a decade later.

I recently found an oil painting at the local Goodwill with a similar spire in the background. Do you know the location of the painting that you posted? This small detail may help me identify my own painting. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

      Hello DizzyDave,
Did Erich Wegner change his style of painting later in life?
Do you have a photo of the signature and if so can you post it?
      Thank you kindly,
      Gales
